Since 2003, we've increased our research and development expenditures dramatically to advance our product-development process. Quality Assurance Product integrity and, safety have always been a top priority for Herbalife. We invest in new technology and research as part of our commitment to bringing science-based nutrition products to the marketplace. While the ingredients used in our products are found in many foods, our raw materials (including botanical ingredients) are globally sourced from reputable suppliers and our products are manufactured in accordance with - and often exceed - established good manufacturing practices. Product quality is verified at our in-house laboratory with state-of-the-art testing equipment. The Herbalife quality team conducts regular audits and inspections of suppliers and contract manufacturers to ensure compliance. Manufacturing Herbalife policy is to comply with the applicable requirements of all regulatory bodies wherever we do business. In the United States, our products are formulated and labeled according to Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations. Outside of the United States, we are regulated by the various ministries of health and food standards agencies where we do business. Herbalife Innovation Manufacturing (HIM) facilities, located in California, North Carolina and China, expand global manufacturing capacity and allow us to increase the speed to market for new products while controlling quality along each step of the manufacturing process, from raw ingredients to finished products – part of our ongoing commitment to excellence. Clinical Studies We have conducted several clinical studies with major universities around the world in order to benchmark the safety and benefits of various products. Three clinical studies using variants of Formula 1 Nutritional Shake Mix were conducted at three different locations, including UCLA* in the United States, the University of Ulm in Germany, and Seoul National University Hospital in South Korea. The studies showed that drinking protein-based a meal replacement can be an effective way to manage weight. A clinical study using a variant of the Niteworks® dietary supplement formula was also conducted at UCLA* assessed the effect upon the anaerobic threshold of men aged 50 to 73. * The University of California does not endorse specific products or services as a matter of policy.
